Medical Technology Awareness Week 2025
On the 1st of December 2025, we held the Medical Technology Awareness Week reception at the Houses of Parliament, with the theme of Turning strategy into action.
We launched the first report from our Commission on NHS Culture, Rebuilding Accountability in a Changing NHS: A Review of ICB Leadership, Innovation and Patient Outcomes, examining accountability, innovation and how recent structural changes, such as ICB mergers, may affect implementation.
A panel discussion led by Robin Swann MP with Seb Rees, David Lawson, and Wil Woan explored the often underdiscussed, but vitally important, issue of local accountability in the NHS.
Our annual reception, hosted by Kevin McKenna MP, brought together clinicians, healthcare leaders and patients to highlight the real-world impact of medical technology. Speakers included:
- Linda Griffiths (Patient, Colostomy UK) – on barriers to accessing essential stoma technology.
- Roger Black (Former Olympian) – on living with congenital heart disease and the value of modern heart valves.
- Dr Zubir Ahmed MP – on the recent £300m capital investment in NHS technology announced in the recent budget.
Take a look at some of the highlights from the event and video messages from our Chair Barbara Harpham and former Olympic athlete Roger Black.
