“Each difficulty or problem was overcome and since my operations, I was finally able to get back to doing the things I love”
After a double hip replacement in 2004, Maree’s worsening knee pain severely impacted her mobility and quality of life. For over a decade, requests for a knee replacement were denied due to the perceived risks. Everything changed when she met consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Veysi.
In collaboration with Johnson & Johnson’s MedTech Customs team in Leeds, Mr Veysi designed a custom implant for Maree – the smallest knee implant ever engineered.
Before this, Maree felt unheard while living with debilitating pain. Engaging in open discussions with Mr Veysi provided a renewed sense of hope and involvement in her own care.
Speaking at the MedTech Week event in Parliament, Maree spoke of the need for a more consultative approach, where patients are empowered to share their experiences.
