The MTG welcomes Thérèse Coffey as the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.

Prime Minister Liz Truss has vowed to ‘put our health service on a firm footing’ and address the backlog of care with her ABCD approach (ambulances, backlog, care, doctors and dentistry). We need a health secretary with the right focus and resources to do exactly that; one who recognises the importance and value of medical technology in supporting the NHS recovery and who prioritises the need to level up care for patients across the country.

We look forward to working with Ms Coffey and her team and to sharing our upcoming report that will highlight this variation in care and champion the best practices of the health service in this very difficult time.

In dealing with these challenges, the government must look to these regions that are succeeding against the odds by using innovation, medical technology and effective leadership to clear the backlog, provide world class care and future-proof our health service.
