Medical Technology Awareness Week 2021

2021 is the Medical Technology Group’s 20th anniversary and the return of our flagship event, Medical Technology Awareness Week.

The week took place from Monday 22nd November to Sunday 28th November, with the return of our popular Parliamentary reception on Wednesday 24th November.

The reception – hosted by Dean Russell MP – saw the launch of the MTG’s ‘MedTech the Solution’ manifesto – a look back on how medical technology has transformed patients’ lives over the past twenty years and how it can help overcome some of the biggest challenges in healthcare over the next twenty years.

This year, speakers included:

  • Dr Tim Ferris, Director of Transformation, NHS England
  • Professor Stephen Powis, National Medical Director, NHS England
  • Matt Whitty, Chief Executive of the NHS Access Accelerator Collaborative

The focus for the next Medical Technology Awareness Week:

This year, the focus of the week was our ‘MedTech the Solution’ manifesto to commemorate the anniversary – a look at how at how medical technology has transformed the lives of patients over the past twenty years, and a look forward to how it can help the NHS overcome its major challenges on the immediate horizon and improve patient outcomes.

The manifesto is divided into three sections:

  1. Then & Now – A look at how medical technology has transformed the quality of care in the past twenty years.
  2. The Future Opportunity – A look at the next twenty years and the areas where medical technology could continue to advance care.
  3. The MTG Five Year Forward View – A look at the challenges the NHS faces on the immediate horizon and an exploration of how medical technology can assist in overcoming these.
